Malinau Kalimantan Utara, 1st March 2023 – Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated the groundbreaking of the Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) owned by PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara (KHN) which is the largest hydropower plant in Indonesia, accompanied by Premier Sarawak, Malaysia Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Governor of North Kalimantan Zainal Arifin Paliwang, Chairman of the Indonesian Consortium Garibaldi Thohir, and President Director of PT Kayan Patria Pratama Juanda Lesmana in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan, Wednesday (1/3). The construction of the Mentarang Induk Hydropower plant with a capacity of 1,375 MW and an approximate investment of USD 2.6 billion is part of KHN’s efforts to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable renewable energy, as revealed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, that the government strongly supports Indonesia’s economic transformation plan towards a green economy, one of which is through the construction of the Mentarang Induk hydropower plant which is integrated with the Kalimantan Industrial Park Indonesia (KIPI) in North Kalimantan.
