KHN Transmission Line System Will Pass Through 3 Regencies

PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara (KHN) conducted a Public Consultation on the Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) study at the Multipurpose Hall of the Tanjung Selor Government Building (GADIS). The purpose was to gather Suggestions, Opinions, and Responses (SPT) as input for formulating environmental impact management regarding the plan to develop a 500 kV Extra High Voltage Air Transmission Line (SUTET) line from the 1,375 MW Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Project in Malinau Regency to the Extra High Voltage Main Substation (GITET) in Tanah Kuning, Bulungan Regency.
The event was attended by all relevant stakeholders, including authorities such as officials and representatives from the provincial government of North Kalimantan, Malinau, Tana Tidung, and Bulungan regencies, as well as representatives of the local communities/indigenous institutions, community leaders, and village heads located along this transmission line route.
"The construction of this electrical transmission line system is highly complex due to its length of ±230 km and will cross 3 administrative regions in North Kalimantan, namely Malinau Regency, Tana Tidung, and Bulungan. It includes 59 villages in 11 districts. There will be a total of 517 towers prepared to supply electricity from the Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Project to the Indonesian Green Industrial Park (KIHI) which is being developed in Tanah Kuning, Tanjung Palas Timur District, Bulungan Regency. The transmission line project is planned to commence in 2026 and is estimated to be completed and operational by 2029," explained Andhi Marjono as Director of KHN.
In accordance with Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 regarding the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management, the construction of the 500 kV SUTET towers and GITET requires Environmental Approval and an Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in order to obtain Business License. Regarding the preparation of the AMDAL, PT KHN is committed to involving various elements of the affected community to gather valuable input through this meeting.
KHN hopes to establish close cooperation with local governments, community/indigenous leaders, and the local community in the preparation of this AMDAL and environmental approval. KHN will ensure that the development activities comply with applicable regulations and mitigate negative impacts on the environment as well as the economic activities of the affected residents.
Also present at the event were the Chief Police Officer of the North Kalimantan Region, Inspector General of Police Daniel Adityajaya, S.H., S.I.K., M.Si., as well as the Regent of Malinau Wempi W. Mawa, S.E., M.H., the Regent of Tana Tidung Ibrahim Ali A.Md., and the Regent of Bulungan Syarwani, S.Pd., M.Si. During the event, PT KHN appointed the Hatch-Alas consultant to explain the activity plan and preparations made for the AMDAL study, followed by a question and answer session.
